First group of teams and universities announced for BCSPL University Showcase

Vancouver, BC - The EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League is pleased to announce the first committed group of teams from outside the BCSPL that will be attending the 2019 BCSPL University Showcase on the May 24-26 weekend in Kamloops, BC. Also announced are the committed university soccer programs so far who will be attending the event to identify and watch the top youth players in the premier showcase.

From Alberta, returning clubs with teams committed so far include the Calgary Foothills FC, Sherwood Park Phoenix, and Calgary Southwest United. Troy Flannery, who wears two hats as the Girls Academy Director for Calgary Foothills SC, and also as the Head Coach of the University of Calgary women's program, noted "this is an exceptional event from both the perspective of the university coach and club coach - premier facilities, quality competition, access to required resources and superb overall organization. A must for both my calendars".

Mike Whyatt, Director of Soccer Development for Soccer Nova Scotia, added "Soccer Nova Scotia are delighted to attend the BCSPL Showcase with our U16 & U17 Boys Provincial Programs to expose our local talent against some of the country's best. We are hopeful with attending this showcase we can allow more players an opportunity to further their individual journey on the player development pathway".

Kai Tolpinrud, GM of host club Thompson Okanagan FC, commented "TOFC is very proud to once again host the BCSPL university showcase in Kamloops. This event provides players throughout our league invaluable exposure to a large number of university coaches all in one location. One of the most satisfying results of our work at the club and in our league is to see graduating players move on to further their education while gaining a scholarship and furthering their soccer careers at a university".

In 2018, 27 university coaches attended the showcase, and so far for 2019 the schools registered to attend include the University of BC, MacEwan University, Saint Mary's University, Western University, UBC Okanagan, St. Francis Xavier University, the University of the Fraser Valley, Mount Royal University, and Simon Fraser University.

The BCSPL University Showcase was created to showcase BCSPL players in their prime recruiting years (grade 10/11) in a central location for ease of recruiting by university coaches from across the country. With the addition of Alberta teams in 2018, and now Nova Scotia teams for 2019 along with university coaches from across Canada, this is truly a premier showcase event reaching across the country.
